Well said, Dita.

Hey everyone!
So today I wore a really bright/busy printed summer dress. It had line designs on it that were purple, green, and blue. Anyways I didn't know what makeup to do and I didn't want to do neutrals so I just went for a bare lid with winged liner and doll-pink cheeks and lips. It was really simple and complimented the dress really nicely. I know it's not a special look but I thought I'd share it anyways. It kind of reminded me of a 60's look, so I pulled part of my hair back and gave it a little "bouffant" like that style. Also I wanted to share what nailpolish I used! I wore a teal colour from LA Colors, it was my first time trying it out and one coat was really sheer so I put a different nailpolish on top and I loved the results. The result of both looks just like Essie's Trophy Wife nailpolish (love the color, hate the name). I'm not usually into shimmery nailpolish (I am usually a fan of cream finishes), but I love the pearly teals.

EYES:
Urban Decay Primer potion [just to even out lids]
Urban Decay liner in Perversion [upper lash line]
MAC Vanilla e/s [inner tear duct, underneath brow]
MAC Chromagraphic pencil (NW 15-20 or something) [waterline]
Kiehl's mineral mascara

CHEEKS:
MAC Pink Swoon blush

LIPS:
Kiehl's lip balm
MAC Viva Glam Gaga 1 lipstick

For the nails I wore 1 coat of Atomic by L.A. Colors with 2 coats of Sephora Teal We Meet Again on top.

I hope you guys like these!

Solidarity!

Egyptian youth display a giant Palestinian flag in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo.

(Got this from Asad Abukhalil's blog)

I love fearless displays of solidarity like this. These inspire me.

Hey everyone!

So here is a look I did using ONLY MAC Coppering as an eyeshadow all over. I really love the colour and it's so unique, so I decided I would try and really make it stand out (instead of just blending it in with other colors like I usually do). This look was so simple/fast to do, and I felt like it just really made my eyes glow. I think that this is an eyeshadow that would look beautiful on other colored eyes (most especially blue eyes). I was worried about how it would look but I think it turned out to be pretty flattering! I saw a Youtube tutorial where Pixi2woo paired Coppering with Creme Cup lipstick so I thought I would try that at first. My sister said it looked really horrible and "too clashy," so I switched it up with just a nude lip. I kind of liked it with the soft pink lip though... What do you think? I'm not entirely sure, I don't really think the two lip colors look that different from each other... I like both... Anyways I hope you like it!

EYES:
Urban Decay primer potion
MAC Coppering [lid, crease, lower lash line]
Aveda kohl pencil [waterlines, smudged on upper lash line]
Covergirl mascara
Vanilla [inner tear duct]
CHEEKS:
MAC Peachykeen blush
MAC Shell Pearl beauty powder
LIPS:
MAC Creme Cup lipstick (pink lip)
Buxom Big and Healthy lipstick in Sydney (Nude lip)
MAC kissable lipcolor in Woo Me [on top]

Here it is with the soft pink lip:

...And with the nude lip:

I was very proud of my color coordinating because my shirt was bright orange and blue, and I had orange on my eyes, block blue nailpolish, and I wore blue heels and a blue purse too. So I wanted to show my shirt. Don't mind the pose, I was listening to Rick Ross, haha.

Do you have Coppering eyeshadow or something similar? How do you like to wear it?

Police state...

Same old shit, different pile.
I was SO suspicious of the military during the uprising. Despite the fact that people thought they were protecting the people, I had a feeling they were not. Not to say "I told you so," but to say that the situation now makes it clear where the military stands, and that during the January/February uprising they were only securing their interests in Egypt for the future, and nothing else.
I'm disappointed to see this happening now, but I'm not naive enough to think that revolution will happen overnight. Mubarak has stepped down, yes, but there are still deep wounds within the system that need to be dealt with as well. While Mubarak was a big part of what the Egyptian state was for decades, the structures and institutions of a police state within Egypt still exist and have not dissolved.

Not to mention the hypocrisy and lack of accountability that foreign actors hold to the current situation... Although if it was Iran, it would be a completely different story!

But alas, revolution is a journey...

Fresh Teal/Green Eyes!

Hey everyone!

So here is a teal and green look I did using only Urban Decay's Book of Shadows III (The New York themed one). I haven't used it for a while and there are some gorgeous colours in there so I decided to make a bright, colorful look, and keep it fresh enough to wear during the day by skipping heavy liner and keeping the rest of the face light. I got a lot of compliments on it from the girls working at Sephora and MAC too! :$

I kept it summery by pairing it with peach lips and peach matte blush, with highlighter.

I hope you like it!

Free Syria

via Angry Arab Blog

"One of the great things about the prospects of a free Syria is that it will so overwhelm Lebanon and surpass it with its success and prosperity.  Free Syria is destined to become dominant in the Arab world, especially in the fields of arts, culture, literature, and tourism. "

So true.

Syria in our minds and in our hearts. I hope they get their freedom soon and that the blood of all those shed was not in vain...

Hey everyone!
So I know these 2 looks aren't that special, but I decided to share them anyways. These were looks I've worn during the "daytime" or just out with friends, but I wanted some colour that wasn't too overpowering and that was still fresh. The first one I wore a soft green all over the lid blended out with some brown, and liner on the top only. The second one was a neutral look using the Urban Decay NAKED palette, and I added the aqua liquid liner on top and bottom lashes for some color. I think trying one of these ways is a nice way to wear color throughout the day or even for university. I hope you like them!

*Also, I love using the Kiehl's mineral mascara for everyday wear. I've noticed I barely lose any lashes when I take it off. It feels really light and gives the lashes a natural, defined look without being clumpy. I save Covergirl Lash Blash mascara and others for when I really want the lashes to look defined and heavier.

Products used in look below:
Smashbox Zoom e/s [lid]
MAC Soft Brown e/s [crease]
MAC Brown Script e/s [to deepen crease a bit]
Urban Decay Perversion liquid liner
Kiehl's Mineral Mascara
NARS Deep Throat blush
Nivea lip balm

Products used in look below:
Urban Decay Naked palette [Sidecar, Toasted, Hustle from inner lid to outer lid]
Makeup Forever Aqua Liquid liner no. 4 [upper liner, smudged on lower lash line]
Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Flash [lower waterline]
Kiehl's mascara
NARS Deep Throat blush
MAC Ample Pink lip gloss

How would you wear colour in an everyday look?

I just gotta say that I absolutely LOVE the promo picture for this collection! I love everything about it. Look at the rings and the nails and the car and her eyebrows and the blue above her eyebrows ah! Everything about it is so cool. The makeup in the picture reminds me a lot of the Dior spring/summer 2011 runway makeup they did.

I saw the collection promo on Temptalia this morning, not too sure how the eyeshadows will come out but I will probably pass on them. It seems like I already have a lot like the ones in the pictures (plus I bought almost half of the Peacocky eyeshadows earlier this year).

I want this picture blown up to put on my wall as a poster. Speaking of posters, do you remember the MAC Red She Said promo picture? I'll put it below, it was so gorgeous and I BEGGED the people at the MAC counter to give me one when the collection was over but they said they were not allowed. Grr. Anyways, I love photos like this.

Here's the Red She Said one:

It almost looks like the same model in both...
OH AND REMEMBER THE NAUGHTY NAUTICALS COLLECTION? This was a bit before I got into makeup but I just remember passing by the store and swooning over the promo picture for that one too! Here it is:

Why Can't Men...

Still dress like this anymore?
*sigh*...

Drooooool.

*edit: I realize now that if I saw any guy dressed like that today walking by me I'd probably think he's a total douchebag. I think that you'd have to have the same 50's swag as back then, which not many men have nowadays...

Vintage Inspiration

So, I have a love for vintage/50's fashion/makeup/everything. Other than the fact that women were treated in a subordinate way back then, I love everything else. My dream is to look like a 50's lady but I know that will never happen haha. I love that women back then always made sure they looked put together before walking out of the door. (By the way when I'm in university mode, I seldom do this, or even put makeup on haha!) I saw this quote by Coco Chanel and I think it pretty much sums up the way women carried themselves "back in the day":

"I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny, and it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny."
                                                                        - Coco Chanel
Well here are some of my favorite photos I have in my vintage pictures folder, so I thought I'd share them with you!

Ava Gardner, probably my favorite pin up... I think she's just so stunning!

I love Bernie Dexter, she is a modern pin up model (and now designer), she looks like Bettie Page and I WANT THIS OUTFIT SO BADLY!

Elizabeth Taylor, haha. She is so insanely beautiful!

Cute pictures of retro love... *DEEP SIGH* (the balcony one is my favorite... So cute.)

I love the colours in this picture... Look at the orange lips with the blue water! It makes me want to wear orange lipstick with a teal dress... Ha ha

Soad Hosni, an Egyptian actress/pinup. She was way prettier than this picture shows, but I just love her outfit here.

 I WANT THIS DRESS!!!!!

Orange/blue combination again! I think it looks awesome! If I had the body for it I would definitely copy this outfit haha.

What do you guys think of vintage/retro fashion, pinups, style, etc?

Hey everyone! So I really love Kim Kardashian's makeup, and I love trying to recreate her looks. I think she's gorgeous and even though she comes off pretty ditzy, I think she has a killer style. I tried to do a soft smokey look not based off of a specific picture, but off of her look in general. I noticed in her pictures that she often likes to keep a lighter color on the lid with some darkness in the corners, and then goes very heavy on the lashes and liner. I paired it with just a lip liner and lip gloss on top (I've been doing the liner/gloss combination a lot lately, it looks great and lasts quite a while!)

Tip: If you want to keep this look appropriate for "day wear," I'd skip the black kohl liner in the waterline and replace it with a beige or soft white one, which will give it a softer and more fresh look.

I tried to only use the Urban Decay Naked palette for the eyeshadows in this look, since I was looking at it and thinking how Kim Kardashian-y the colours were. Ha ha =)

Eyes:
- Sin [all over lid]
- Creep [packed on outer part of eye and blended into crease, lower lash line, on top of kohl liner]
- Naked [to blend out crease]
- Sidecar, Half-Baked, Gunmetal [mixed to transition from beige to the black in the middle]
- Virgin [tear duct and brow highlight]
- Gunmetal [blend under lower lash line]
- Kohl liner [smudged on upper/lower lash lines]
- Covergirl Lash Blast mascara

Cheeks:
- MAC Melba blush [one of my all time favorites!]

Lips:
- No. 7 Line and Define lip pencil in Nude [Lisa Elderidge designed this colour... It's perfect and I love her!]
- MAC Florabundance lipgloss

Hope you like it!
