I just gotta say that I absolutely LOVE the promo picture for this collection! I love everything about it. Look at the rings and the nails and the car and her eyebrows and the blue above her eyebrows ah! Everything about it is so cool. The makeup in the picture reminds me a lot of the Dior spring/summer 2011 runway makeup they did.

I saw the collection promo on Temptalia this morning, not too sure how the eyeshadows will come out but I will probably pass on them. It seems like I already have a lot like the ones in the pictures (plus I bought almost half of the Peacocky eyeshadows earlier this year).

I want this picture blown up to put on my wall as a poster. Speaking of posters, do you remember the MAC Red She Said promo picture? I'll put it below, it was so gorgeous and I BEGGED the people at the MAC counter to give me one when the collection was over but they said they were not allowed. Grr. Anyways, I love photos like this.

Here's the Red She Said one:

It almost looks like the same model in both...
OH AND REMEMBER THE NAUGHTY NAUTICALS COLLECTION? This was a bit before I got into makeup but I just remember passing by the store and swooning over the promo picture for that one too! Here it is:

Why Can't Men...

Still dress like this anymore?
*sigh*...

Drooooool.

*edit: I realize now that if I saw any guy dressed like that today walking by me I'd probably think he's a total douchebag. I think that you'd have to have the same 50's swag as back then, which not many men have nowadays...

Vintage Inspiration

So, I have a love for vintage/50's fashion/makeup/everything. Other than the fact that women were treated in a subordinate way back then, I love everything else. My dream is to look like a 50's lady but I know that will never happen haha. I love that women back then always made sure they looked put together before walking out of the door. (By the way when I'm in university mode, I seldom do this, or even put makeup on haha!) I saw this quote by Coco Chanel and I think it pretty much sums up the way women carried themselves "back in the day":

"I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny, and it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny."

Well here are some of my favorite photos I have in my vintage pictures folder, so I thought I'd share them with you!

Ava Gardner, probably my favorite pin up... I think she's just so stunning!

I love Bernie Dexter, she is a modern pin up model (and now designer), she looks like Bettie Page and I WANT THIS OUTFIT SO BADLY!

Elizabeth Taylor, haha. She is so insanely beautiful!

Cute pictures of retro love... *DEEP SIGH* (the balcony one is my favorite... So cute.)

I love the colours in this picture... Look at the orange lips with the blue water! It makes me want to wear orange lipstick with a teal dress... Ha ha

Soad Hosni, an Egyptian actress/pinup. She was way prettier than this picture shows, but I just love her outfit here.

 I WANT THIS DRESS!!!!!

Orange/blue combination again! I think it looks awesome! If I had the body for it I would definitely copy this outfit haha.

What do you guys think of vintage/retro fashion, pinups, style, etc?

Wake Up Alone

I am usually not that emotionally occupied when a celebrity passes away... But in Amy Winehouse's case I cannot stop thinking about what once was a young, glowing woman with what many said was an open personality, and an undeniable stunning contralto voice, dying so young...
(Saw this on Tumblr)

I don't want to comment on her tabloid hype regarding her drug/alcohol habits because there's no point, my opinion doesn't mean anything and I'm only one of a bajillion people voicing my opinions on the internet. But what I will say is that you can tell from the lyrical material that Amy wrote that she was someone who was in a lot of pain and was yearning for some love.

One of my favourite songs from Back To Black album:

We're all creation, and God sees us all the same way... All of us as people mess up, we let our friends down, we don't live up to our lover's expectations, and just as often we are let down by others. But I think that just showing someone some unconditional love has such potential to change a life... Being free from any oppression or the feeling that someone has to just compensate for their actions in order to deserve love is completely liberating.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot since her death... And [like I mentioned] I know my opinion really doesn't mean anything but I've been challenging myself to be more understanding and compassionate in the way I deal with others, and letting go of my bitterness... We can never fully know what's happening in someone's life, why they behave the way they do, or if they have bitterness too, so even if it means trying to be more polite when a situation goes wrong, or trying to make a joke or conversation when a service-person is acting edgy, because we don't know how that could cheer them up. Even if it doesn't, it's better than adding to all the things that are bringing someone down.

Since Amy Winehouse's death, I've been thinking of the idea of unconditional love/selfless love. With my sisters, and my true friends, I've been trying to view them the same way that God would view them, meaning trying to see them from more positive eyes when I feel frustrated. It's been really difficult but if I can help a friend and be loving and supportive the way others have been with me (especially when I didn't deserve it), I think it could be a really positive force...

People need love, especially when they think they don't deserve it.

Prayers for the Winehouse family and all those close to her. May they feel comfort and love like never before in their dark time.
